Omahu Valley Citrus & Omahu Valley Farm
Simon and Caroline Marriott
Situated at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island of New Zealand,
the farm lies in the Omahu Valley, 1.5km off State Highway 26, between Thames and Paeroa.
Omahu Valley Farm was purchased by the Marriott family in 2000 and the orchard planted over two years from 2004 - 2006. There is approximately 3 acres of Yen Ben lemons and Bearss Limes; roughly 850 trees in total. Other citrus trees are spread around the farm include Tangelos, Tangors, Grapefruit, Lemonade, Mandarins and various types of Oranges. The picking, planting and marketing of the orchard is solely managed by the family.
Valley Citrus products were developed in early 2011, inspired from selling citrus fruit at Thames market. The recipes have been created so that the products retain a high artisan quality, and do not include any preservatives or artificial flavourings. All fruit is carefully picked and selected for its truly fresh and natural flavours.
Alongside the edible products, Fragrances are made from the citrus with the use of a Portuguese copper still. These fragrances are hydrosols, with small amounts of citrus essential oils. Production of all Omahu Valley Citrus goods takes place from a licensed commercial kitchen, located on the farm.
In conjunction with the orchard the farm also runs a Suffolk Sheep stud, small scale calf rearing, a few beef cattle, 1500 timber trees, as well as a couple of sheep dogs, chooks and ducks.
